Dentures in Chicago, IL

If you are missing one or more of your teeth then you'll need to determine which tooth-replacement option is best for your smile. There are different options available, including dental implants and dentures. For dentures, there are complete dentures, partial dentures, and implant-supported dentures.

Complete Dentures

Complete dentures are used when all teeth have been removed. Once the gums are healed, a conventional denture can be placed within the mouth. Another option is immediate dentures, which are created in advance. These can be placed within the mouth once teeth are removed. With immediate dentures, a patient does not need to be without teeth during the healing period. However, immediate dentures require some adjustments as your gum line shrinks during the healing period.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures can be used when some natural teeth remain. A removable partial denture usually consists of replacement teeth that are attached to a gum-colored plastic base. This is connected to a metal framework that holds the denture in place.

If you have natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw, then partial dentures are a viable option.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures are a type of denture supported and attached to implants. Conventional dentures rest on the gums and are not supported by implants.

If a patient doesn't have any remaining teeth in the jaw but has enough bone to support implants then implant-supported dentures may be considered. This type of denture is still removable and should be removed daily for cleaning.

Depending on your situation and needs, any one of these denture types may be best for you. For a non-removable solution, dental implants or crowns and bridges are viable solutions.
